Roman Catholic Priest Chaplain - Full Time

Hourly Pay Range: $19.71 - $28.74

FTE 1.0 with day time hours to be determined. Will include on call and potential week-ends, holidays and week-ends.

JOB SUMMARY

The Roman Catholic Priest Chaplain is part of the Spiritual Care team that ministers to the spiritual needs of patients, their families and Mercy Colleagues, respectfully serving those of diverse faith and practice, and always confidential.  A rich life experience is exhibited in a mature, resilient manner that brings clarity and calmness to all situations.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS  

Education [formal]:

  • Master's Degree required in Pastoral Ministry, Spirituality, Theology or Divinity
  • Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) units as required by employment status through the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) or the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC); usually 4 units encompassing Levels I and II
  • Board Certified Chaplain or actively working toward that certification

Experience: 

  • Outside of System: Board Certified Chaplain with one year of clinical experience beyond certification
  • Inside of System: Board Certified Chaplain or 4 CPE Units completed and in active certification process

Special Skills and Competencies:

  • Roman Catholic Ecclesiastical Endorsement and credentials are required
  • Knowledgeable of the theological, medical-moral issues which support the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church
  • Appreciates the diversity of religion and spirituality of patients and possesses ability to respectfully work with the patient's value system providing appropriate care
  • Fits into the culture of the Spiritual Care team per Spiritual Care leadership and Staff Chaplains' assessments
  • Capable of cognitive and critical thinking; can work creatively and collaboratively
