Revenue Cycle Analyst- St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor

An opportunity exists for a Revenue Cycle Analyst I to join our Patient Financial Services team.



The Revenue Cycle Analyst  assists with revenue cycle performance improvement initiatives by providing data analytics, reporting and operational support to the Director of Patient Access Services, the Access  management team and other Hospital departments.  Work activities include, but are not limited to, collecting, compiling, and presenting weekly/monthly statistical information for department and staff productivity, performance, quality measures, insurance denials and patient collections. Work activities require considerable knowledge and experience in supporting and developing reporting, analytical research, and process improvement within multiple patient access revenue cycle  functions.   Assignments may require interfacing with, gathering information from, and making presentations to various levels of management and internal executive leaders. The Revenue Cycle Analyst will perform all functions in a courteous and respectful manner.

Core responsibilities:

Creating reports and data files utilizing Trinity supported tools including   Business Objects and EPIC system.

Displaying and manipulating data in various programs such as Microsoft Office,  Tableau and Visio. 

Presenting qualitative and quantitative data.


  • Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Trinity Health Mission, Core Values, Vision, in behaviors, practices, policies and decisions.  
  • Conducts data management activities to support Revenue Cycle activities that include, but are not limited to:  Performs ad hoc analysis of Revenue Cycle trends. Assists management in identifying meaningful operational and financial metrics, and assists in the appropriate interpretation and application of data. Generates and distributes standard reports and analyses, as required according to established deadlines. Assists management in preparing reports, charts, and presentations in various media.  Prepares special documents, reports and related materials for board meetings, executive management meetings, and special projects.
  • Utilizes and validates information from multiple internal and external computer sources, such as various payer websites, Revenue Cycle and Clinical, to ensure data accuracy.
  • Participates and serves as a resource in the development of process improvement initiatives which support business needs and enhance the performance of an operational area of revenue management.
  • Takes initiative to continuously learn within assigned job function to support progressive responsibility.
  • Other duties as needed and assigned by the manager.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.


  • Possesses a knowledge of health care operations and finance, obtained through an Associate degree in Health Care, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field; or relevant related work experience. Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, statistical analysis and other related coursework is desired to meet job requirements.  Past work experience in a health care setting or financial services setting in a position performing analytical data reviews and training activities is required.
  • Reporting experience including report design and delivery, performing data mining activities, process improvement support, and reporting in at least one health care business discipline is preferred.  Proficient in the use of reporting tools such as Business Objects and/or COGNOS.  Knowledge of  EPIC , Health Quest  systems and date structures is preferredKnowledge of Trinity Health Revenue Solutions Warehouse (RSW) data structures desired.
  • Completion of regulatory/mandatory certifications and skills validation competencies preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, data entry skills, and organizational abilities.  Interpersonal skills are necessary for interacting with customers and colleagues.  Accuracy, attention to detail, ability to work independently, and proficient time management skills are required. 
  • Process improvement/resolution and data analysis experience and/or training preferred. Considerable reporting and analysis experience including report design and delivery, analytical and data mining activities.
  • Knowledge of hospital scheduling and registration, charge capture, billing and collection practices, third party payers, and strong analytical skills is preferred. 
  • Experience identifying and understanding issues, problems, and opportunities. Ability to compare data from different sources to draw conclusions and use effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions.   Able to take action that is consistent with available facts and Trinity Health Core Values.
  • Knowledge of Business Objects, McKesson, EPIC, products preferred.
  • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative environment.
