Medical Physicist - Cancer Center - Full Time


The Medical Physicist, a member of the radiation therapy planning team, is knowledgeable of the physical and geometric characteristics of radiation equipment and radioactive sources, measures and generates radiation dose distributions and calculations, performs quality assurance testing on radiation treatment equipment and provides consultative services to the Radiation Oncologists regarding treatment planning.



  • Minimum of M.S. degree in Medical Physics/Radiological Physics required
  • Must be board certified or board eligible
  • Must meet requirements of State of Iowa for Medical Physicist


  • Demonstration of 3 years of competence in Medical Physics preferred

Special Skills, Competencies, and Aptitudes:

  • Must be able to understand the technical aspects of radiation oncology and physics to derive computerized treatment plans and communicate these aspects to the Radiation Oncologist(s) for plan approval, and to the Radiation Therapists for plan implementation
  • Must possess good communication skills
  • Must possess the sensitivity and understanding needed to work with cancer patients
  • Must possess strong mathematical skills and be able to visualize objects in 3-dimensional concepts to facilitate planning process
  • Must possess the ability to work under pressure due to fluctuating workloads and deadlines
  • Completes Mandatory Reporting requirement within 6 months of hire and renews this requirement every 5 years
