Director Performance Excellence ~ Performance Excellence

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, Executive Management, this position is responsible for improving value by promoting the integration of Lean principles and behaviors into the culture of the organization. The incumbent provides leadership and management of the Process Excellence/Value Improvement department which aims to achieve organization-wide competency in continuous improvement. The incumbent enables colleagues by fostering collaborative learning and respect that adds value to the organization. He or she works with Senior Leadership to plan and implement an effective Lean transformation, achieving strategic alignment and measurable business results. This position directs, manages, develops, and teaches the Trinity Health leadership system to drive integrated and systemic organizational improvement. The incumbent provides leadership and supports the identification and achievement of benefit and value across SAMC and the Trinity Health system as part of Transforming Operations (T.O.). He or she directly supports the achievement of Saint Agnes Medical Center's triple aim to reduce cost, improve quality of care, and meet the needs of the community.


1. Advanced or Master's level degree in Hospital or Business Administration or a related field is required (i.e..: MHA or MBA).

2. At least three years of full-time experience as a Lean practitioner is required.

3. Five years of full-time experience in a formal management/leadership role in hospital administration or healthcare consulting is required. Advanced industry and general business acumen is required.

4. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple, concurrent projects utilizing project management tools is required. Ability to work under deadlines and handle multiple detailed-oriented tasks in the midst of frequent change is required.

5. Excellent leadership, communication and negotiation skills in order to influence results, gain support and tactfully manage complex relationships at all levels in the organization is required. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop productive working partnerships with senior leadership, managers, and staff is required. Strong influencing, collaboration and partnering skills with credibility to lead change through negotiation, communication, consensus building and fostering of relationships throughout the organization is required. Demonstrated ability to coach senior-level/executive leadership is required.

6. Demonstrated proficiency and expertise in identifying and articulating process improvement opportunities is required. Strong process redesign and analytical skills, including application of statistical tools, techniques, and theory to problem solving is required.

7. Demonstrated self-motivation and self-direction in fulfilling assigned tasks/responsibilities with proven ability to work independently and as a team member is required.

8. Skilled in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint is required. Ability to use other software required to perform essential functions is required.

9. Lean/Six Sigma certification is preferred.

10. Experience in Toyota Production System (TPS), including a deep understanding of the Lean/TPS culture, philosophy, principles, systems and tools is preferred.

11. Formal operations leadership experience overseeing complex projects requiring interface with executive leadership is preferred.

12. Experience leading strategic planning or deployment is preferred.
