Director of Talent Acquisition

GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE: In accordance with the Mission and Values of Saint Alphonsus Health System (SAHS), the Director, Talent Acquisition will collaborate with organizational leaders to understand, analyze, and support future workforce and talent acquisition needs for SAHS by creating, developing, and executing the Talent Acquisition vision and strategies necessary to achieve our business objectives and support continued growth plans. This will include assessing current and future talent needs of the organization and developing the team of talent acquisition professionals that will improve our overall talent level. This highly visible role requires an experienced professional to interface with all levels of leaders across the organization and to lead the development of strategic workforce planning, including diversity and inclusion initiatives. This director will have broad leadership experience and capabilities in creating and driving a best practices function throughout SAHS. The Director Talent Acquisition marshals resources to achieve the effective sourcing, branding & attraction, recruiting, screening & selection, hiring, and first-year on-boarding of high quality, diverse talent across SAHS and collaborates with others across Trinity Health. The Director Talent Acquisition will identify and implement metrics to measure progress and effectiveness, and appropriately balance talent acquisition professionals and external resources and vendors, infrastructure (enabling platforms), and organization design to achieve results for SAHS.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Meets Health System's Values and Caring Standards including interpersonal communication and professional conduct expectations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, Healthcare Administration, or related area is required.  Master’s degree in a related area is preferred.  Minimum of seven years of full-cycle Talent Acquisition experience.  Five years of managing a corporate TA team (company size of at least 1,000-5,000 employees).  Experience with Work Day Talent Acquisition module is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the operational aspects of the healthcare industry in general, as well as specific understanding of hospital and medical office operations preferred.  General knowledge of federal and state employment laws; experience with Joint Commission and EEO/OFCCP requirements and reporting preferred.  
  • Proven track record of strategic leadership, hands on experience in TA and commitment to cultivating an equitable, inclusive work environment.
  • Experience in implementing sourcing and staffing best practices, including passive candidate search techniques, school partnerships, and talent pool development.
  • Ability to set, monitor and achieve department goals and budgets to advance the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate across functional areas within and external to the HR team, building and maintaining excellent working relationships across the organization with multiple and diverse teams.
  • Ability to successfully role model desired communication competencies throughout the health system - including the ability to inform, persuade, negotiate, counsel, and serve as a change agent in support of the health system strategies.
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills.  Analytical ability to conceptualize well in a fast-paced, dynamic and multi-functional environment requiring creativity, innovation, foresight and mature professional judgment. Ability to juggle and prioritize competing priorities
  • Experience managing, planning, and implementing strategic change initiatives. Knowledge of and the ability to successfully apply process improvement/lean philosophy, principles, and technology.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop and drive Talent Acquisition strategy and implement the delivery of world class talent identification.  (Including but not limited to:  job posting optimization, recruiting marketing channel development, job board procurement, digital and non-digital employment marketing, comprehensive recruitment campaign planning, talent pipelines, and utilization of external partnerships, etc.).
  • Create innovative and new practices for talent attraction and engagement. Provide leadership developing a system recruitment strategy that will build and maintain active candidate pipelines for hard-to-fill, high volume, and/or critical positions.
  • Lead, manage, mentor, build and inspire the world class Talent Acquisition team.  Provide coaching and career development opportunities to team members to allow them to grow their professional practice skills and career. Focus Talent Acquisition team on proactively building an on-going pipeline of talent for current and future needs.
  • Facilitate brainstorming of and development of new creative recruitment solutions to ensure visibility in the candidate market.
  • Set, monitor and achieve department goals and budgets to advance the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Select and manage all recruiting-related vendor partnerships.  Lead through influence, the vendors selected from a national platform through the Trinity Health System Office.
  • Manage, maximize, implement and continually improve the utilization of TA tools, methodologies, policies and procedures appropriate to the recruiting objectives of the health system.  This includes, but is not limited to, applicant tracking system, background check vendor, reference check tool, pre-employment assessments, etc.  The goal is to streamline and shorten the application process, leverage technology and shorten the hiring cycle; ensure the best/right tool is in place, utilized consistently and delivers results.
  • Maintain a recruitment dashboard including cost, time and quality of the TA function.  Use data for strategic analysis to continuously improve the recruiting process, to determine TA recruiting strategy including but not limited to external partnerships.
  • Direct, design, develop, and measure, in partnership with Marketing and Communications, a high impact TA “brand” which includes a marketing strategy to promote Saint Alphonsus as an employer of choice, inclusive of social media, digital recruitment and other advertising channels that will generate applicant flow of high quality candidates.
  • Work to improve the recruitment/selection/onboarding process across the health system so that it is innovative, candidate-friendly, and expeditious - providing Saint Alphonsus with a competitive advantage in the healthcare recruitment space.  Utilize technology throughout the candidate journey.
  • Strive to ensure each applicant has a flawless candidate experience through communication and timely feedback.  
  • Develop and maintain networking and partnership relationships with community organizations, colleges and universities, alumni organizations, industry organizations to help identify and source qualified talent as well as share innovative recruitment strategies.  
  • Educates hiring managers and the Talent Acquisition team on the talent acquisition process, the strategic direction of talent acquisition, labor market trends, behavioral based interviewing and hiring for excellence.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with senior leadership and department/clinic management to be a consultative resource and trusted advisor.
  • Maintain a current knowledge and understanding of regulations, laws, best practices and new developments in Talent Acquisition and Sourcing by participating in professional conferences and educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining professional networks and participating in professional organizations.
